Feg P9r Serial Numbers
When I joined this forum, I was going to refinish two pistols I have and wanted to post the process here on this forum. One thing led to another and I actually ended up paying a gunsmith to refinish the pistols for me. Here is the story. I am a big gorilla type of guy and have large hands, I prefer an old school heavier all metal semi auto with double/single action and a spur or military style hammer. I already had a FEG Interarms P9R. The P9R was in excellent shape and just had some holster wear. I wanted to obtain the shorter P9RK version of the P9R and started to look on NOT ALLOWED.

Last August I found a FEG Century Arms P9RK on NOT ALLOWED that looked like it had been “through the war” as my dad would say. I contacted the seller and bought the pistol for $250. I was planning on re-bluing the P9RK myself. While searching online for bluing materials, I ran across a website called Cerakote.
After looking in the gallery on the Cerakote website I found a certified applicator and contacted him. After seeing the Cerakote gallery, I decided to have both pistols refinished. I took both pistols to Applied Arsenal Finishes in Waterman IL. For the P9RK, I chose a mil spec green for the slide, and desert tan for the frame and barrel with mil spec green controls.
The P9R was done in a midnight bronze with black barrel and controls. Brandon shot me a price for both that I could not pass up.
He said he would do the coating/refinish for around $250 ea. This price was due to the fact that I had insisted on 4 or 5 colors on ea pistol which ups the time and therefore the price, and I had him do the tear down and reassembly. After looking over the P9RK, Brandon at Applied Arsenal told me that the pistol was in excellent mechanical condition and that it did not appear to have been fired very much at all. He also stated that he would try to profile the pitting to knock it down some and make it look pretty nice. I dropped half down and drove off. 4 weeks later they were completed.

Brandon had not only done the coating, but he buffed and polished the slide and frame mating surfaces. The slide rides on the frame like butter now, very awesome. The coatings came out perfect and the guns both look feakin awesome! He took care of each detail I requested and opened up the aperture on the rear sight with precision accuracy.
The pitting on the P9RK was pretty bad and could not be eliminated. That was expected. The grips that came with the P9RK pistol were wasted. I went online and got a set of new replacement black plastic grips for around $12.
I got to the range today to test fire them, but I left the mags at the shop with Brandon by accident. If you are thinking about having a gun refinished, Cerakote is the way to go IMO. Here is a couple of pics of the P9RK before the refinishing; Here is the P9RK after coating with Cerakote; I did not have any good pics of the P9R before I dropped it off. It was in excellent shape other than some holster wear so just wanted to post up the pistol after it was refinished.
Speaking of Ceracoat, I have a neighbor and a friend who asked if I would look at a gun for them, First was “daddy’s gun” a Once nice 1930’s era S&W M&P 4”.38 Special now covered with thick rust—screws frozen hammer spring broken in half. Soaked in ATF for a month and was able to disassemble, will be a shooter—abet an ugly one. Second a single barrel 410 (firing pin missing) also covered with rust and pitting. Was reported to be his when a kid (75 now) and recently found in attic. He lives in the house he and his dad were born in. Neither firearm is going to be beautiful again so I am bead blasting the rust out of the pits and eaten away portions and once cleared of the rust I will use Ceracoat aerosol spray “Gun Blue” on both weapons, the pistol will function safely but “sonny” the neighbor is 85 years old and doubtful he will shoot it much. The shotgun will get some finish on the wood and a suggestion it grace a wall.
