Took the time to run the Uninstall (notes.pkg) rebooted machine, installed from CNQY7EN, and IF 16. Seems to have fixed the problem. Now it loads in under a minute and runs great.

I have a remote user with Lotus Notes 8.5.2 (standard, i.e. Built on eclipse) using local mail database replica. All of a sudden he started getting 'File cannot be created. Search IBM technotes' error message when trying to attach a file to an e-mail by clicking an attach button (paperclip). Nothing happens if user tried to Drag-and-Drop file to e-mail body.

I've tried replacing design on local mail database and names.nsf, I have tried renaming workspace folder so a fresh one is generated by Lotus Notes, but it didn't help. I also tried withing from local mail database to server mail database, but that didn't help either.

Searching technotes didn't give any relevant results. Any ideas what could have gone wrong?

I can see that there is at least one other person interested in this, so I'll post the solution (at least in my case). Above link will take to IBM Doc no 1245139. Temp directory referred to in the document is not the Windows/temp but users temp directory, accessible by%temp% when user account experiencing the problem is logged on. In case of Win 7 it is C: Users [user account] AppData Local Temp Then you need to: 1. Make sure lotus notes is not running.

I'd check task manager for running processes as in my experience Lotus Notes doesn't always terminate all processes on exit. Find the notes[hex no] 3. Rename the folder 4. Start Lotus Notes and make sure a new notes[hex no] was created 5. Test is issue is resolved. Test is issue is resolved. I have tried doing this an it did not work. System: Dell Latitude D630, XPSP3 --Lotus Notes 8.5.2 I cannot drag files to an email message without getting an hourglass (does not attach) but allows me to use notes as if nothing happens. I can even shut down notes (with 2 processes that do not shut down in the background and have to use killnotes).

I cannot attach a file either, it either gives me an error note/reporting screen and shuts down. What I have tried: Reinstalling, deleting/renaming cache.ndk, deleting/renaming desktop.

File, deleting the%temp% file (as above). None of these have fixed the issue. Any other ideas? I'm having this issue with another of my PCs.

I might be wrong, but from my most recent observation it seems that Lotus notes expects NOT to have a temp[hex no] in the%temp% folder on start. I've been playing around and it appears that normal operation is for Lotus Notes to create temp[hex no] folder on launch and delete it on close. So if temp[hex no] exists when Lotus Notes starts, it can't create a new folder with the same name and for whatever reason Lotus will not use pre-existing folder even whet it has full access permissions. As to why Lotus notes fails to delete the temp[hex no] folder on exit - I have no Idea. Maybe someone else have stumble upon the solution?
